چکیده

Abstract. Compaction and salinization of soils reduce croplands fertility, affect natural ecosystems, are major concerns worldwide. Soil compaction alters soil structure affects the soil's hydraulic properties, it therefore may have a significant impact on evaporation solute transport processes in soil. In this work, we investigated combined compaction, bare evaporation, salt precipitation. X-ray computed microtomography techniques were used to study geometrical pore grain parameters influenced by compaction. The precipitation was studied using column experiments. We found that reduced average size increased number grains, due crushing grains their translocation within compacted profile. Changes geometry heterogeneously distributed throughout profile, with changes most apparent near source our case, at surface. experiments showed presence small pores upper layer profile leads higher loss rates, increase connectivity surface prolongation first stage evaporation.

Experimental Survey on Microwave Drying of Porous Media

The cost of drying carpet which is done toward the end of the manufacturing process, is quite high. The carpet industry has been using convection drying for many years. Little attention has been given to quantifying the effect of microwave power during the drying of carpet. An experimental system was developed whereby air was introduced into the cavity of a domestic microwave oven. The resu...

Asymptotic solutions of compaction in porous media

Compaction in reactive porous media is modelled as a reaction-diffusion process with a moving boundary. Asymptotic analysis is used to find solutions for the coupled nonlinear compaction equations, and a traveling wave solution is obtained above the reaction zone.

Dynamics of drying in 3D porous media.

The drying dynamics in three dimensional porous media are studied with confocal microscopy. We observe abrupt air invasions in size from single particle to hundreds of particles. We show that these result from the strong flow from menisci in large pores to menisci in small pores during drying. This flow causes air invasions to start in large menisci and subsequently spread throughout the entire...

Simulation of dissolution and precipitation in porous media

[1] We apply the lattice-Boltzmann method to simulate fluid flow and dissolution and precipitation in the reactive solid phase in a porous medium. Both convection and diffusion as well as temporal geometrical changes in the pore space are taken into account. The numerical results show that at high Peclet and Peclet-Damkohler numbers, a wormhole is formed and permeability increases greatly becau...

Competition Among Flow, Dissolution, and Precipitation in Porous Media

A theoretical and experimental study has been carried out on flow, dissolution, and precipitation in porous media. Flow experiments were performed on linear carbonate cores using acidic ferric chloride solutions. Dissolution of the carbonate by the acid causes an increase in the solution pH, thereby precipitating ferric hydroxide. This precipitate plugs up the pore throats in the medium and inc...
